Facts Of New Zealand SLJ

My top three facts are these :)

1.  The Maori name of New Zealand is Aotearoa.

2.  The languages in New Zealand are English, Te Reo Maori, and sign language

3.  There aren't any snakes in this country.

  1. Hi Harry!

Welcome to the Summer Learning Journey - My name is Ellee and I work with Allie on the Summer Learning Journey team!
It's great to see you have completed your first activity - You have done an awesome job of listing three facts about New Zealand (sound like a bit of an expert!)

Phew, I am glad there are no snakes in New Zealand, I say leave them in Australia - I do not like them one bit!
I once worked in America and on my ride home one night a snake slithered out in front of me on the road. I got such a fright I almost fell off my bike...I don't think I have ever ridden as fast as I did that day to get away from that snake. :)
    Do you like snakes?
Would you like it if we bought them to New Zealand?

I like that you have also mentioned the Maori name for New Zealand - Do you know what Aotearoa means in English?
It's a pretty interesting story, if you want to read a bit about it you can check out this link:

You are right that we have three official languages in New Zealand - Do you know much Maori or sign language?
I only know a little bit of both but would really like to learn more, I think that would be pretty amazing to be fluent in all three!
    What do you think?

Great job Harry, I think this is an awesome start to your Summer Learning Journey - Keep it up!

    Ellee :)

  2. Hi Ellee, I don't think I would like snakes in New Zealand. We went to America when I was 6 1/2 (2016) and we saw a snake in the garden at my mum's friends house where we were staying. We saw more snakes at the Denver Zoo in Colorado. There were lots of snakes like rattle snakes and about a 9 metre anaconda with lots of other reptiles. And yes I think I do know what The Maori Name of New Zealand (Aotearoa) means Land of the long white Cloud.I do know some Maori language but no sign language.

Thank you I also think its a good start to the SLJ.

    Bye. -Harry
