Artsit profile

This is my artist profile for the artist Banksy.

Graffiti or street art? task 2

Yesterday we read an article about people being arrested for doing graffiti or street art? I enjoyed reading this because it was a very interesting article and it had different street artists at the end of the article. The article was about two men that were jailed for graffiti and showed similar cases.

I don't think the two men should have been arrested because street art can help people feel happy and it should be good if people graffiti because people make a living out of graffiti and some people make heaps of money from graffiti. So the two men shouldn't be arrest because they are just lifting people's spirits and beautifying the city or town.

How to play capture the flag

We had to make a how-to video.I enjoyed having people to play this game because its fun and it was cool to make this video.

Today we worked on why coral reefs are dying. I found this very interesting how the coral reefs were dying.
I worked with Quaid and Taj. this was fun to learn something new and something more people should know about this to help the environment. If you thought this was interesting thank you and go and check Taj and Quaid's blog to see this again and comment.

Managing yourself

Today for class we had three options to do: Relating to others and Managing self I chose managing self I found some of these parts hard and some easy.

Capture the flag

Capture the flag

Capture the flag is a fun game to play with two to four teams.

Time: 5 to 20 mins

Amount of people: 12 to 100

Equipment: Flags or cones

Skills required: Strategy, observation, speed, and stealth

Rules

  • The flag\cone has to be visible
  • If you get tagged you either do 15 pushups or 100 starjumps and then go back to your side
  • Once you have hidden your flag you can't touch it again
  • You have to be 5 meters away from your flag
  • When you enter the opposing team's side you can be tagged
  • When the opposing team enters your side you can tag them but they can't tag you
What to do

  • The aim of the game is to get the other team's flag
  • Try to have plans and strategies
  • Have fun
Any size field is good just make sure it is sorta flat. To get the other team's flag try to get your team to distract them while someone runs and grabs it. Also, you need to find it first. Try to observe the other team and see their strategy. When some of your hides your flag. Send groups out to fake hide the flag so the other team may get confused.

Today we had to write how to play a game, the game I chose is capture the flag. Capture the flag is very fun to play so you should play it.

Alfred Nobel

Today for current events we researched Alfred Nobel. Alfred Nobel was the person that created the Nobel prize, For the Nobel prize, he left 94 percent of his fortune. His fortune today would be worth around 250 million. His most famous invention was dynamite. He was 63 years old when he died. He was coincidentally born on the same date as today in 1833.

Writing plan - Paroa beach

Writing Organiser- Explanation Report Introduction: General Statement about the topic

The beach is an important part of our community. I think the beach is really important because you can do many things there like: Fish, walk your dog, Play in the waves, explore the dunes and tussock and finally, hunt for greenstone. I like to go to the beach so Jessie can play. The thing I dislike the most about is the bluebottle jellyfish I find in between the stones. The beach is easily accessed off the bike track that runs along the coast.

Description: - Series of explanatory statements
The beach’s terrain is very rocky by the shore.
It has very good driftwood to build huts in.
I don't like that it usually has lots of seafoam.
When it is low tide it can be sandy.
It is fun because we can go down to it because it is right beside the school.
I like it when the beach is sandy because you can run without hurting your feet on the stones.

Conclusion: - Summary or comment I think that our beach is a very important place for the grey district area because you can do many outdoor activities. I like to jump over the stream that leads from up at the start of Coulson Road and ends at the sea. It is important to our community because if we weren’t by the sea the town can't be called Greymouth because it is the mouth of the grey river.

Braindump

This week we worked on sportsmanship. This is my braindump for what I think makes a good sportsman\woman and what doesn't. I found this kinda easy because I know what can make a good sportsman\woman. I knew that a good sportsman has kind actions toward their teammates and the ref.

This is how I would describe Trevor in the book I read for novel study Pay it forward. I found this part challenging because he was quite shy and didn't say much about himself at first.

Novel study

This is the plot of the story in the book Pay it forward. My favorite part of the story was Trevor thought of his idea for the project.

Voltage and currents

This is my science write up for the experiment we did in class today. We learned about how currents work in circuits. We found out that the higher the voltage the brighter the light or faster the spinner or the louder the buzzer. We predicted what would happen for each amount of voltage and then tested them with a circuit to find the results. I enjoyed testing the circuits with the amounts of voltage the most. Current is a way that the particles move around the circuit. Voltage is the force that creates the electrical current. The table is showing what happened with the predictions and results. We found out our results by testing them.
The predictions are a way of trying to see what will happen.

Climate change

Climate change

Most people say we should get ready for climate change but its already here there are lots of islands that are sinking into the sea. Before the 1800s the way people lived they didn't make a lot of greenhouse gases when the industrial revolution came factories were built and needed energy, the way they made energy was by burning coal and other fossil fuels. I think the best way is to fence off land to grow trees back for oxygen or plankton farms.

Did you know:

If green lands ice sheet melts the sea will rise by 7 meters
It takes 1-4 tonnes of coal to make one solar panel
8 islands have sunk into the uprising ocean
Most solar panels only last for 5-10 years
Normal wind turbines only last for 20 years
In every second 1 and a half of an acre of rainforest is cut down
The worst greenhouse gas is carbon dioxide
That plankton makes oxygen

Onion wives

Onion wives

Long ago six families lived on the outskirts of the village. during the day the men would hunt and the wives would look for herbs in the forest to cook the meat. one day one of the wives found a group of small plant-like balls, they had discovered sweet onions. they bit into them and they loved them! they gathered lots of the sweet onions and brought them home." what is that smell?" said one of the husbands "something is rotting!" said another as they approached the wives they screamed "it's you" they showed them the onions and told them to taste them, the husbands shook their heads and told them that they had to sleep outside that night.the next night was the same and it kept happening the wives wanted them to taste the onions but husbands didn't. after awhile the wives were sick of sleeping under the stars and that night when they were laying on grass they were telling each other that they must leave. The eldest wife knew magic and chanted words, a rope appeared the wives held on to it, and the eldest again chanted magic words and the rope began to rise into the sky higher and higher. the husbands saw them up in the sky and ran outside and they did the same as the wives and went up and up the wives saw this and the eldest stopped them coming up. the husbands were stuck as the Taurus constellation and the wives were the Pleiades cluster

LEGO Ecosystem

This is a LEGO ecosystem I made. It has got a: Bat (Consumer, biotic), Wolf (Predator, biotic), Spider (Producer, biotic), Snake (Predator, biotic), Fish (Producer, biotic), Frog (Consumer, biotic), and a Rabbit (Consumer, biotic) Worms were my decomposers but I didn't have a lego one. I enjoyed building the habitat of all these animals. The thing that challenged me the most was angling the spider web piece on the triangle plate. The animals co-exist together by producing, consuming, decomposing. An example: the rabbit eats the flower, the wolf eats the rabbit. the snake eats a frog, the spider eats the snake.

Design a sea animal.

This is my creature for today. It lives in the benthic zone and is named the camouflaged snake because its dark blue skin blends in with the gloom of light.  Its habitat in the benthic regions is deep below in the trenches. I made this creature as a sea snake because there are a lot of snake-like things in the benthic zone.

Possum problem

This is the activity I completed today for literacy medals. I enjoyed learning about why possums affect the NZ forest and wildlife, along with why they were imported in 1837.

Possum Ecosystem

This my model of a possum ecosystem made out of LEGO.
I also made a picture so you can get a better idea of a good ecosystem with food, predators, and where the possum lives.
We did this because it was an activity for Paroa School and we needed to draw, build, or find a habitat. My drawing shows more details because LEGO does not have any insects so I couldn't put them in my LEGO model.

Tuesday, 5 May 2020

Ecosystem

This is my labeled diagram of an ecosystem. I enjoyed drawing this picture and labeling it. the hardest part was thinking of different bugs, insects, arachnids, and birds. the bird that I drew was a bird that I saw fly into the garden. It was a goldfinch! I looked through our NZ bird book and looked through the information. If I could add more it would be more insects I couldn't add because I didn't have enough room on the paper. The abiotic helpers are non-living things that help the environment, the biotic helpers are living organisms that help the environment by consuming, producing, and decomposing.

This is the picture I drew for an activity that involved a descriptive caption that we had to picture in our mind and draw. I really liked this piece of work because you got to draw.

Vocabulary

This activity was quite fun because you got to take photos and describe words. My favorite part was taking pictures of different animals and living organisms such as sheep and bacteria.

Spanish New Year

Spanish New Year

A Spanish New Year's celebration is quite busy with all their traditions.
It is important for Spanish people so they can try and have good luck,
and for other festive opportunities. They make sure to feast with family and friends.
Spanish New Year’s will be celebrated on Thursday 31st December 2020.

Luck is one of the most interesting Spanish New Year's traditions because it includes many
different ideas. One of the most famous customs is eating 12 grapes, 1 for each stroke of the clock
at midnight. The idea of 12 grapes is to bring good luck for each month leading up to the coming
year. By the time the 12 grapes are eaten, it will be New Year's day and you will have good luck for
the whole year. Another popular tradition is putting one coin into a number of cross-shaped
biscuits, the person who gets the biscuit with the coin in it gets good luck for next year.
Lottery tickets are very popular at the time of Christmas and they have a superstition
so if you rub it against a bald man's head,  a pregnant woman's belly or a cat will make it a winner.
In the northwestern region of Galicia, lottery players hang their tickets to horseshoes!
If you want to fall in love you should wear red underwear to call Cupid for aid,
in some parts of Spain it only works if the underwear was gifted.

The food is probably one of the most important things in New Year’s traditions.
A custom is to eat lentil soup, as the round lentils represent a coin to bring you wealth
for next year. A traditional meal in Spain is vegetables, pork, cornbread, black-eyed peas,
and beans. Sometimes a piece of gold or a coin will be dropped into a glass of cava for good fortune.

The Spanish culture celebrates New Year because it is the start of a year which will hopefully
bring good luck and happiness.

Fractions and Decimals

This is my maths work for term 2, week 3. We did this to understand how to convert fractions to decimals. I enjoyed doing this because you got to watch a video.

Chinese New Year

CHINESE NEW YEAR

Chinese New Year is the most important holiday for Chinese people living in China and around the world. It is like when we celebrate Christmas - families get together, people feast, and there are gifts and fireworks.

The day is celebrated on the first day of the first month on the Chinese calendar which is between January and February. The festival date changes every year. It is also called the Spring Festival. It is the start of a different animal’s Zodiac year.

The Zodiac year is a “turntable” of 12 animals that took part in the great race. The great race was invented because the Emperor wanted to keep track of time. The animals in order of first and last were: 1. Rat, 2. Ox, 3. Tiger, 4. Rabbit, 5. Dragon, 6. Snake, 7. Horse, 8. Sheep, 9. Monkey, 10. Rooster, 11. Dog and finally in 12th place is the Pig. The cycle changes every 60 years because of the heavenly stems and earthly branches.

There are many Chinese myths, but a popular one was about a beast called Nian. The beast would ravage towns and cities in search of food, it would eat livestock (mostly cattle), crops, and occasionally people! The people were terrified of the beast and would put food on their doorstep so it wouldn't harm them or their animals. Once they found out the beast was afraid of the color red, they would hand out red lanterns and other red things to scare the beast away. They used fireworks to warn the beast not to come. After they did this Nian would not come to the towns and cities anymore. They would continue with this tradition but they only did it on New Year to celebrate Nian not coming.

In conclusion, the Chinese New year is globally celebrated by one-sixth of the world population.

Events for next year

Events for next year

After lockdown, I would like to go on one of my favourite walks to Woods Creek. I would like to go
with my family and friends because I have fun with them, and I haven't been to Woods Creek for
a long time. Some of the things I enjoy on this walk are the bridges and tunnels.

I like going to Punakaiki with my family, we sometimes stay with my auntie and uncle and cousins
at the campground in our tent or a cabin. I love Punakaiki because there are really cool walks,
we camp and play on the beach and go to the pub for tea where they have goldfish and a cart
with horses. It's always good fun to catch up with my cousins.

I’d like to have a Playdate with Taj and Jari when we can see our friends again. My idea is to bike
over to their house and take them to the beach with our dogs Jessie and Jess who would like it too.
I like seeing Jessie and Jess running together, and I like playing with my friends.

Paroa beach

Paroa Beach
As I walk down to the beach a gust of wind blows on my face, I shiver. As I get down to the full view of
the beach the tussocks blow wildly. I keep on walking when Jessie zooms past me, she's like a bullet
she keeps on running and into the waves. The rough waves nearly toss Jess around. I look around for
a good stick while I walk, I feel the strong winds trying to push me back. I pick up a stick “Jess-ie” I call.
Jessie perks her head up out of the waves and sprints over for a game of fetch. I throw the stick for her
a few times until she gets bored. Jessie trots along beside me. I give her a quick pat as a glint of green
catches my eye. I stumble over the tussock and see a shard of green sand, I dig the object out. It's a
smooth green stone. I smile at my third piece of greenstone I've ever found, “come here Jessie '' Jessie
looks my way and walks over to me, she sees the greenstone and gives it a sniff. She cocks her head
sideways and wags her tail. I know not to open my mouth or she’ll try licking the inside of it! I slip it into
my pocket and keep on walking with Jessie at my side. We decided to walk back so we can get a rest
back home. When we get back Jessie laps up some water and snuggles in her basket.

I lie on my bed thinking about what I had done at the beach. The beach is my special place because I
can spend time with my dog and listen to the crashing waves.

The End.

I liked this slide show more than the one I did before because it was more time consuming and it had bigger numbers.

10 and 100s in a 4 digit number

I enjoyed this slideshow because it was really easy I found tricky the slide without a number so I just put a number into the slide. This slideshow was made to show that we could work out identifying 4 digit numbers.

Book Review

This is my book review for the story *The stolen stars of Matariki* I really enjoyed doing the book review because I have never done one before. My favorite part was the character part.

The stolen stars of matariki

  1. How else could the children have solved the problem of the missing stars?
Brainstorm other ways to get the stars back from the patupaiarehe, then choose the
best solution.

Use their two torches to trick the  patupaiarehe that sunlight was coming

  1. Rewrite that section of the story using your new solution. Don’t forget to edit the
story afterward.

Get some feedback (positive, thoughtful, helpful) from someone in your bubble and
then write out a good copy of your own ending.

“Look!” exclaimed Sam to the others  “there’s that naughty patupaiarehe with the
missing Matariki stars.”
“How are we going to get them back where they belong?” said grandma.
“Let’s whack them with the gaff” joked Sam.
“I’d like to whack them with the gaff for stealing, but that wouldn’t get the Matariki
stars back,” said grandma. “The patupaiarehe are vulnerable to sunlight, but
waiting or distracting them would take time.”
“Could we use the torches?” suggested Te Rerehua.
“Great idea Te Rerehua” whispered grandma.
The two children crept down the beach by the water’s edge and shone the
flash lights at the patupaiarehe”s direction. “Ahhh the sunlight!” the patupaiarehe
cried and ran to the hills.
“Grandma, Koro” called Te Rerehua to her grandparents.
“We tricked them!” said Sam.
“But how will get them back up?” said Te Rerehua.
“Koro knows,” grandma said as Koro swung his gaff into the air with a star on it.
Soon both stars had returned to their place up in the sky, and Matariki was
complete again.

Covid lockdown maths

This my maths for day 1 I really enjoyed going through the maths problems and working them out.
the most challenging thing for me was writing how I got to the answer.

Bears

Bears
Lots of people have been putting bears up in their windows during the Covid-19 lockdown.
Since we don't have windows by the fence of the house, our family decided to make some bears out of wood!

This was a picture of our first bear (before it was painted). We made another bear which was smaller for me, and then we decided to cover our fence with bears! After two grizzly bears, we decided to make a where's Wally bear and the three bears.

Next, we thought about what other bears we could do, so we wanted to do Paddington.
We drew out Paddington, cut the wood, painted him and put him on the fence.
It was getting close to Easter so we wanted to make an Easter Bunny!

After the Easter Bunny, Dad wanted a Yogi bear and we all wanted Winnie the Pooh.

and that is what our fence now looks like!

Giant Ice block!

Today I made a giant ice cube the size of my face!

I started yesterday by layering water into a container and then today I put two more layers of water into the container and after about an hour it looked ready (it wasn't)I slid the ice out of the container and it was a cube and freezing it was like I had frostbite! I made a hole in it ant a little pool of water came out and got me wet, I started trying to gnaw on the ice but it was solid.after a few minutes in the sun it warmed up and I could rip chunks of ice off it. and I cut it in bits and gave Jessie a quarter. after a small amount of time, I had eaten it!
